This is the add-on that will translate and below are screenshots of how it looks. After installing, right click and make sure you change languages from Chinese to English or vice-versa. What I tend to do to find movies is I go to Youku.com first and type in a name in English, find the Chinese symbols for it (using the translation tool) and then go to tudou.com or 56.com (websites which you can preload the whole movie ahead before watching it) and find the movie there (by copying and pasting the Chinese writing in the search bar). Good luck! icon1.gif

Tudou.com

56.com

Highlight it then right click and follow what it shows on the screenshots (make sure you have English -> Chinese instead of Chinese -> English or vice-versa).

What I also tend to do is I go to youku.com and I search a movie in English then find it in youku and copy the chinese letters for it (I know what it means due to the translator) then go to tudou.com or whatever and paste the chinese letters there and search.

Doesn't the trackpad have the ability to highlight by clicking on the left button and holding it down while going over it? Then, once you highlight it, right click and do the same as with a mouse.

One button (Mac Powerbook G4) but perhaps there's a side-to-side function I have yet to discover. I'll try it!! Ya never know--I haven't needed to do anything like that previously--curious. Love to learn something new. wink.gif

Thanks H!!

PS Tried it to no avail--that's OK I'll break out the mouse!

One thing you can try ( It works on PC's) is place the cursor in front of the word you want to highlight and hold down

ctrl + shift then press the right or left arrow key (depending on what way you ant to highlight) I hope you

understand this and hopefully it works for you icon1.gif

Just tried your idea. Your method works for things like flashgot/visual bookmarks and the like but it looks like the mouse is the way to go. Thanks for the try J --certainly worth a shot.

I know many people have very heated and specific opinions on Mac and in a lot of areas there is more availability with PC's. I have both and I've used both. For my needs, Mac rules -- it's intuitive and consistent across aps so you don't need to spend a lot of time learning all the little tricks for a new program. For audio/visual/artistic endeavors, it's hard to beat. I do have a PC that I can always drag out if I need to but I seriously doubt I will.

Not looking for a debate here--to each his/her own. There are advantages/disadvantages to both obviously-- I believe the majority of people tend to stick with what they know and are more comfortable with the mainstream--always followed a different route personally!! Viva la difference!!

Bring on the mouse time to stop banging my head- lamo.gif -that will feel good biggrin.gif

Thank you all for your help.

My best solution was widget.

Translated right there-- no fuss. If you want to know more, ask. I use a Mac so my software may be different.

Blackcat- I believe you mean the subtitles found on hosts such as tudou and youku. That you can't change. If you pick hosts such as Veoh or Megavideo you most likely can avoid them. I appreciate the lack of commercials enough that I barely notice them anymore. Hope that answers what you wanted to know.

Yeah, the subtitles were on the video before it got uploaded. That's the downside of a non-english-speaking hos sitet: the videos have subtitles so all the non-english-speaking can understand what's going on. wink.gif

well i'm pretty sure the Mac's have a shift and arrow keys right? well just click it once anywhere on the text and if it shows a flashing "|" thing then press and hold on the shift key and use the arrow keys for the direction of the highlight. after that press "Ctrl + C" for copy and then "Ctrl + V" for paste.

hope that helps.
